Moment of Truth: iPhone Software 1.1.1 is out
It's now later in the week, and the moment of truth for those who chose to unlock their SIMs, as the 152MB v1.1.1 update is now available via the iTunes Auto-Update. If you were one of the adventurous ones, the general consensus is to hold off from upgrading as the iPhone Dev Team have promised a re-locking tool within a week that should prevent your iPhone becoming an overpriced paperweight and allow you to enjoy the new iTunes Wi-Fi Store (and more) on your iPhone.

Who is going to test 1.1.1 on unlocked iPhone?
Will 1.1.1 have any problems with hacked (but not unlocked) iPhones?
The anticipation is killing me.......

question: I have not upgraded to the latest itunes. When I hit check for updates, it says i am using the latest iphone software (1.0.2). Do i have to install the latest itunes???

@badtzmaru: I have iTunes 7.4.1 (because of my ringtones) and it was able to detect the new 1.1.1 update for my iPhone. I have Installer.app on mine, and supposedly it doesn't cause any known problems (says Engadget). I'll see what happens.

Darn, I have to update my iTunes to get the update. I held off on updating iTunes to keep my custom ringtones. Goodbye 24 CTU ringtone :(.

Great - hopefully now that the iPhone suffers the same countermeasures as the touch we'll finally see some dedicated and effective hacking on the new codebase and hopefully an unlock that also works for the touch. This firmware is good news for touch owners who have been waiting for the hackers to have more incentive to work on cracking the new codebase. Now that the iPhone hopefully features the same protections, we'll all benefit from it being cracked.

I am running iTunes 7.4.0 and it sees the update. I have not downloaded and installed to see if it will make me upgrade after installation.

Just tried the upgrade on a stock iphone. got some kind of error - yellow triangle on iphone telling me to connect to itunes. had to power down iphone and power back up for itunes to recognize the phone. now it is restoring and upgrading my iphone software which apparently means i lose all my dada. thanks apple, why don't you test things out before you release them into the wild.

@#13 SAY IT ISN"T SO!!! I have to wait until the afternoon when I'm home...I too have the CTU ringtone and I would die if I lose it....doot doot dalolooot....
